Medal commemorating the loss of submarine 'U22' and airship 'L19', 1916. Obverse: Death with clenched fists wading through the sea towards the English coast over which an airship is bursting into flames. Legend: 'U22 L19 ENGLAND . DAS . MASS . IST VOLL .' (Submarine No. 22, Airship No. 19, England, the measure is full.) Reverse: Within a hollow decorated band, the German flag: inscription below. Inscription: 'EXORIARE ALIQVIS . NOSTRIS EX . OSSIBVS VLTOR.' (May some avenger arise from our bones.) Border formed of bomb explosions.
