Legend: 'VIAM INVENIT VIRTUS AUT FECIT'. Exergue: 'INTER CLASS. AMERI. ET BRIT. DIE X SEPT. MDCCCXIII.' (Between the American and British fleets, 11 September 1814.) The obverse is after the medal awarded by Congress and engraved by Moritz Fürst. It is signed by him, 'FURST. F.' below the truncation of the bust and in the exergue. The reverse shows the battle of Lake Erie from another Congressional medal.
