Watch stand
A watch stand made in bone by prisoners of war confined in Norman Cross Barracks during the Napoleonic Wars. Many of these men were French seamen, but the prison also held other nationalities. Four pillars support a semicircular arch with a pierced screen decorated with two pairs of birds and a crown. This contains a compartment for a watch. The item stands on a rectangular wooden base, with bone posts at the corners joined by pierced bone screens.
