Balaclava

A fleecy knitted travelling cap as used on the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911-14, lead by Sir Douglas Mawson. It has a bobble, padded peak and a turndown to cover the whole head, leaving a slit for the eyes, nose and mouth. The cap is machine-sewn with woven maker's label attached beneath the bobble.
