Commemorative medal depicting Nicholas Copernicus (1473-1543). Obverse: Bust of the astronomer (half-right), a model of the solar system to the Copernican theory to the right. Legend: 'NICOLAUS COPERNICUS . QUI . SOLEM . STARE . TERRAM . MOVERI . ISSIT.' Reverse: A circlet of beads. Legend: 'ACADEMIA . LITTERARUM . ET . SCIENTARUM . POLONA.' Inscription: 'XV LUSTRIS FELICITER PERACTIS MDCCCLXXIII MCMXLVIII.' The medal was issued by the Polish Academy of Science and struck by the Warsaw Mint (information Orest Paszkowycz).
