Medal commemorating the quartercentenary of the death of Nicholas Copernicus, 1943. Obverse: Copernicus, kneeling (full face), his right hand upraised and his left holding a pair of dividers, papers litter floor and a diagram of the solar system according to him is propped up on the left. Legend: 'NICOLAUS COPERNICUS 1475 - 1543.' Reverse: Twin sprays of foliage. Inscription: 'IN HONOREM OPERIS DE REVOLUTIONIBUS ORBIUM CAELESTUM CCCC ABHINC ANNIS PRIMO EDITI MCMXLIII LONDINII.' On edge: 'Dr. HAROLD SPENCER JONES F.R.S.' The medal was issued by Spink & Son. (information Orest Paszkowycz).
