Angel

Edward IV angel. Obverse: Cinquefoil pierced. The archangel St Michael, standing, facing on the dragon which he pierces with his spear. Legend: 'EDWARD' . DEI : GRA' : REX . ANGL . [ET] . FRANC'. Reverse: Ship to right with mast in form of cross, surmounted by a top-castle. 'E' and a rose on either side of the mast. Royal arms at its base. Legend: 'PER CRVCEM . TVA' . SALVA . NOS . XPC . REDEMPT'. This is one group of nine gold coins found in the Greenwich Palace excavations of 1970-71, in the lower Grand Square of the Old Royal Naval College.
