Longjohns

Longjohns used on the Australasian Antarctic Expedition 1911-14. A pair of longjohns knitted in cream wool with brown flecks, the ankles ribbed. They have oversewn seams and a gusset. A shaped cotton waistband is sewn to the outside of the longjohns at the top. The centre back of the waistband slit with a triangular piece of cotton material inset, four button holes on either side with lacing to adjust. Three mother of pearl finish buttons up the front. On either side of the front opening, two strips of cotton are sewn on the engage the braces. Maker's label sewn on.
