Medal, the XI Olympiad, Berlin 1936
Commemorative medal depicting the XI Olympiad, Berlin, 1936. Obverse: Five men, arms extended each side, holding vertical staves, heads turned (left), climbing a step. Inscription written vertically each side, date below: 'XI . OLYMPIADE (right) BERLIN (Righthand corner) 1936.' Reverse: Within a circle, a bell bearing the German eagle holding the five Olympic circles in its claws. Inscription, on lower edge of bell: 'Ich rute die jugend der welt.' The item belonged to Christopher Allan Boardman (1903-1987), gold medal winner of the 6 metre yacht race at Kiel in 'Lalage' .
