Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: View of a caravel. Inscription: 'CARAVEL'. Reverse: Inscription, 'CARAVEL Fifteenth Century. During the fifteenth century Prince Henry the Navigator sent caravels, commanded by daring Portuguese navigators, on voyages of discovery along the west coast of Africa. The caravel was well-suited for these voyages because she was extremely maneuverable, and with her triangular sails, she could make headway toward the wind.'
