Ingot commemorating 'Henry Grace a Dieu'
Rectangular shaped ingot commemorating 'Henry Grace a Dieu'. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of a four-masted galleon. Inscription: 'HENRY GRACE A DIEU'. Reverse: Inscription, 'HENRY GRACE A DIEU Sixteenth Century. A symbol of national pride, the Henry Grâce à Dieu is traditionally regarded as the first ship of the British Navy. The mighty 1,500-ton warship bristled with cannons but proved too top-heavy for stability in high seas. Modified in 1536 to reduce her weight, she remained one of the most impressive and powerful warships of her day.'
