Rectangular shaped ingot depicting a Spanish Galleon. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of a Spanish galleon of the 16th century, sails set. Inscription: 'SPANISH GALLEON'. Reverse: Inscription, 'SPANISH GALLEON Sixteenth Century. With its greater speed and ease of handling the galleon became the major fighting ship of the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. It was an extremely versatile type of vessel which was used by many European nations both as a warship and as a merchantman.'
