Ingot depicting a Venetian galleass
Rectangular shaped ingot. Obverse: Starboard broadside view of a seventeenth century Venetian galleas. Inscription: 'VENETIAN GALLEASS'. Reverse: Inscription, 'VENETIAN GALLEASS 17th Century. Adapted from the galley, the Venetian galleass was powered by oars, each manned by up to five oarsmen. It also had lateen sails for auxiliary power. Larger and broader-beamed than the galley, the Venetian galleass was a heavily armed warship used primarily in the Mediterranean Sea.'
