Tinned pemmican
Tinned pemmican used on Nares' Arctic expedition in 1875. The tin is square with curved edges, a separate lid and is half full of pemmican. The inside lid reads "PEMMICAN ARCTIC FOOD (8), and on the outside of lid under a coat of black paint is "Plain pemmican 16 lb". Pemmican is dried and pounded meat mixed with fat.
