Captain Hardy's Reward, 1805
Captain Hardy’s Reward, 1805, awarded to William Adams, Quarter Master’s Mate, HMS ‘Victory’.
The medal is made of iron with a foul anchor on the obverse within a laurel wreath with the crown and GR above. It is inscribed, ‘Wm Adams, Qr Mr Mte HMS Victory’. On the reverse is the inscription, ‘Reward of merit by order of Capt.T Hardy. Metal from the French ship Redoutable taken at Trafalgar Oct 21st 1805 after having 300 killed and 222 wounded’.
