A meat dish of the 'Arctic Scenery' pattern. It is made of earthenware, transfer-printed in blue with a scene of Eskimos dancing in front of a group of European sailors, based on an engraving by Edward Finden after G.F. Lyon entitled 'Eskimaux children dancing, Igloolik 1823' in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Second Voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1824). The sailors are from an unidentified source. In the background, icebergs and a ship are shown overwintering in the Arctic, from an engraving by W. Westall after F.W. Beechey 'H.M. Ships Hecla and Griper in Winter Harbour' in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1821). The border is divided into eight panels showing alternatively flowers, a tiger and a vulture.
