Legend: "TO THE BRITISH ARMY". Exergue: "1793-1814". Fitted with a bar and a scarlet ribbon edged with blue. Bar: "JAVA". Inscribed on edge,"THOMAS BIRTLES". A rare example of this medal being presented to a sailor.
