Obverse: Head of Queen Victoria with a diadem, hair tied in a knot (L). Legend: "VICTORIA REGINA". Reverse: A laurel wreath, tied with a bow, the royal crown above. Inscription: "FOR CONSPICUOUS GALLANTRY". Inscription on edge: "SPECIMEN". [This example is of the 2nd issue type of 1874.]
