Obverse: Short bust of Queen Victoria in a diadem and veil (L). Legend: "VICTORIA D:G:BRITT:REG:F:D:". Reverse: inscription within a laurel wreath tied with a bow "1863 TO 1865". Legend: "NEW ZEALAND VIRTUTIS HONOR". Suspended from a bar with leaf decoration and dark blue ribbon with a central scarlet stripe. Inscription on edge: "E.WALVIN O.S., H.M.S. ECLIPSE".
