Plate
Dinner plate of the 'Arctic Scenery' pattern. It is made of earthenware, transfer-printed in blue with a central scene of Eskimos pulled on a dog sled, based on an engraving by Edward Finden after G.F. Lyon in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Second Voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1824). In the background, two ships are shown overwintering in the Arctic taken from an engraving by William Westall after F.W. Beechey in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Voyage for the Discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1821). The border has alternative panels showing flowers and animals (a lion, cheetah, antelope and deer). There is an impressed, six spoke mark on the base. There are twelve similar plates in the collection AAA4309, AAA4325-AAA4335.
