Naval Gold Medal (Captain's) for The Battle of the First of June 1794
Captain's Naval Gold Medal awarded to Captain Henry Harvey (1737-1810). Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscribed: ' * HENRY HARVEY ESQUIRE * CAPTAIN OF H.M.S. THE RAMILLIES ON THE I JUNE MDCCXCIV THE FRENCH FLEET DEFEATED'. The medal is fitted with a gold rim with a watch glass on each side to protect the surface. It is suspended on a blue-edged white ribbon with a gold buckle . Naval gold medals were awarded to those officers whom Lord Howe and Sir Richard Curtis considered had particularly distinguished themselves in this battle.
