Naval Gold Medal (Flag Officer's) for The Battle of Trafalgar, 1805

Flag officer's Naval gold medal awarded to Vice-Admiral Cuthbert Collingwood (1750-1810). Obverse: Britannia, a spear in her left hand and a shield below, standing on the deck of an antique galley, her right foot resting on a helmet, crowned with a wreath by a winged victory. Reverse inscribed within a wreath of oak and laurel: 'CUTHBERT COLLINGWOOD ESQUIRE, VICE ADMIRAL AND SECOND IN COMMAND. ON THE 21 OCTOBER MDCCCV. THE COMBINED FLEETS OF FRANCE AND SPAIN DEFEATED'. The medal is fitted with a loop and a ring for suspension and is glazed the protect the surface. The ribbon is missing.
