Stand
A circular dish, in 'Arctic Scenery' pattern, originally on a raised foot. It is made of earthenware, transfer-printed in blue with a central scene of Eskimos pulled on a dog sled based on an engraving by Edward Finden after G.F. Lyon in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Second Voyage for the discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1824). In the background, the scene of two ships shown overwintering in the Arctic, is based on an engraving by William Westall after F.W. Beechey in W.E. Parry's 'Journal of a Voyage for the Discovery of a North-West Passage' (London, 1821). The border is divided into eight panels with alternative flowers and animals (a lion, cheetah, antelope and deer). There is a narrow frieze of animals and flowers on the outside.
