Boulton's Trafalgar Medal
Obverse: Bust of Vice-Admiral Viscount Nelson with pigtail, in uniform and order (left). Legend: 'HORATIO VISCOUNT NELSON. K.B. DUKE OF BRONTE. &." Reverse: General view of the battle. Legend: 'ENGLAND EXPECTS THAT EVERY MAN WILL DO HIS DUTY'. Exergue: 'TRAFALGAR. OCT. 21. 1805'. Inscription incuse: 'Fred McConnell, H.M.S. Thunderer'. Enclosed in a watch glass case fitted with a hinged loop and blue ribbon. Able Seaman McConnell, was aged about 26 at the time of the battle and gave his place of birth variously as Philadelphia, and later as Londonderry (research, Barry Langridge).
