"Windsor Castle" Badge 1824
Obverse: A badge of two crossed foul anchors surmounted by a Portuguese crown, oval bust of King John VI of Portugal, framed by cable. Reverse: an oval, inscribed: "W. REID. 4." surrounded by a band with legend: "WINDSOR CASTLE". Fitted with a vertical bar decorated with a central rose and straight spray of laurel and green ribbon edged with rose. BNM. only mentions the first of these badges being presented to officers of the Windsor Castle, but it appears as if there were two classes of badge, one with diamonds and one without, for both ships, probably for senior and junior officers respectively. Given by King John for receiving him on board at Lisbon when a fugitive in the revoloution.
