Prize medal, Royal Society for the Encouragement of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce
Obverse: Conjoined heads of Mercury, in a cap and Pallas Athene, in a helmet (L) Legend: "ARTS AND COMMERCE PROMOTED". Reverse: Inscription in a laurel wreath tied with a bow. Legend: "TO H.W.HOOD, ESQ, COMMANDER R.N. MDCCCXXVIII". Below: "SOCY. INSD. LONDON 1753". "FOR HIS FLOATING BRIDGE". Fitted with a loop and ring. The four medals MED0247-MED0249 in spite of mistakes in initials, were all awarded to William John Thompson Hood. Born 1794; Captain 1843.
