Blane Medal for Medical Officers
Obverse: Head of Sir Gilbert Blane (left). Reverse Legend: 'GILBERT BLANE BARONETTVS ARCHIATRVS AET.LXXXI'. Britannia (left) a trident in her right hand, standing by a pedestal against which leans the staff of Aesculapius and an anchor; a seaman (left) supporting another in the state of collapse. Legend: 'MENTE MANVQUE'. Below: 'FOUNDED MDCCCXXX'. Sir Gilbert Blane, P.M.O. to Admiral Rodney's Fleet in the West Indies, founded this medal for medical officers who kept approved journals. This gold example fitted with a ring is the trial impression, struck for Sir Gilbert Blane himself.
