Bowl
Ch'ien Lung Chinese export porcelain punch bowl with a deep foot, decorated on the outside with a grisaille painting of the Battle of the Saints 1782 after the published engraving by Robert Dodd. On one side are the arms of Sir Charles Douglas Bt (d.1789), Rodney's Captain of the Fleet at the Saints. His motto is inscribed as: 'Lock Sicker'. (be sure) -the Douglas family motto. The inner rim of the bowl is bordered with a pattern of green and gold, and there is a small floral motif on the bottom.
