World Cruise of the British Special Service Squadron, 1923-24 [Panama Route home]
A leather covered album with embossed title in gold paint, containing 352 plates relating to the world cruise of the British Special Service Squadron, 1923-1924. The ships involved include: HMS Hood (1918), Repulse (1916), Delhi (1918), Danae (1918), Dragon (1917), Dauntless (1918), and HMAS Adelaide (1918). Note: this album is identical to ALB0274
This album covers the following themes:
1) Portrait photographs of the commanding officers of the main ships (see above)
2) Views of places visited, including Sierra Leone, Cape Town, Durban, Pietermaritzberg, Zanzibar, Dar-es-Salaam, Mombasa, Ceylon, Penang, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand, Fiji, Vancouver and Rockies, west coast of USA, the Panama Canal, and Halifax.
3) Ship board life, including crossing the line, visitors to the ships (e.g. Sultan of Zanzibar), farewell streamers from ship, deck hockey, and Grog and lime juice issue.
4) Land-based activites such as African Chiefs, East African Fishing woman, rickshaws, Aboriginal and Samoan, Figian displays, views of monuments and buildings, and sailors by a train to view the Rockies.
