Military Medal 1916-1930

Military medal awarded to Able Seaman D.W. Stuart, Hood Battalion, Royal Naval Division, RNVR

On the obverse of the medal is the bust of George V and the legend: ‘GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REG: ET IND: IMP’. On the reverse of the medal is the inscription: ‘FOR BRAVERY IN THE FIELD’ below a crown and royal cipher and within a wreath. On the edge is written, ‘TZ.6447 A.B. D.W.STUART. HOOD BN RNVR’. It is fitted with a cusped bar and a white ribbon edged with blue and with two maroon stripes.

The medal was instituted in March 1916 and was awarded to other ranks in the Army, Colonial Forces and to the Indian Army (from 1944). Women were eligible from June 1916. It could also be awarded to the Royal Navy and Royal Air Force.
