Victory Medal 1914-18
Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, Inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION. 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: 'COMMR. W.T. BAGOT R.N.' Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues.
Commander Walter Theodore Bagot (1885-1969), joined the Royal Navy in 1900 but his seagoing career was ended by short sight. He worked in the Intelligence Division during World War 1 and was present at the armistice talks with France in November 1918, in the capacity of German speaking interpreter.
