Polar Medal 1937-53
Obverse: Head of King George VI (left). Legend: 'GEORGIVS VI D:G:BR: OMN:REX:F:D:IND:IMP.'
Reverse: Starboard broadside view of a barque-rigged steamer (Discovery) fast in the ice; a volcano in the distance; a group of six men in polar dress on skis in the foreground; a sledge with sails (left). Inscription on edge: 'SPECIMEN'. Bar: 'ANTARCTIC 1935-37'.
The medal is fitted with a cusped bar and white ribbon with brooch pin. This bar was awarded for the expedition to Graham Land.
