Humane Society of Jersey Silver Medal
Obverse: The coat of arms of Jersey. Below a nude figure astride a broken mast in the water hand upraised. Legend: 'HUMANE SOCIETY OF JERSEY'. Reverse: Inscription within an oak (left) and laurel (right) wreath tied with a bow. Inscription: 'PRESENTED TO Charles Le Quesne FOR COURAGE AND HUMANITY 1872'. Name and date incuse. Suspended by a cusped bar and dark blue ribbon. Charles Le Quesne of Great Union Rd, St Helier Jersey, was awarded the Jersey Humane Society Silver Medal. On 22 June1870, at La Collette, Jersey he swam out 150 yards and saved Francis Miller (who was caught by a strong current), from drowning. Miller had sunk out of sight and was unconscious when brought ashore. He was revived after resuscitation. [Information Stuart Elliott]
