Royal Life Saving Society Bronze Medal

Obverse: A man swimming on his back holding the head of another between his hands, the shore in the distance. Legend: 'THE ROYAL LIFE-SAVING SOCIETY ESTABLISHED 1891'. Reverse: Inscription: 'AWARDED TO W.D.S. MONTAGU JULY 1923'. Legend: 'QUEMCUNQUE MISERUM VIDERIS HOMINEM SCIAS'. Incuse: name and date. Fitted with a ring and dark blue ribbon.

Awarded to William Drogo Sturges Montagu (1908-1940) Flying Officer, Royal Auxiliary Air Force during the Second World War and killed in a flying acccident while on active service. The Royal Life Saving Society promotes swimming, life saving and lifeguarding skills with the intention of preventing death from drowning.
