National Shipwreck Relief Society of N.S.W. silver medal

Obverse: An angel standing (centre), a wreath in her right hand, her left hand resting on the head of a kneeling woman; in the foreground a lifeboat man kneeling over a prostrate man lashed to a spar; a manned lifeboat and a wreck in distance (left). A lighthouse on a rock (right). Legend: 'SUNT LACRIMAE RERUM SUNT ET SUA PRAEMIA LAUDI'. Reverse: A lifebelt inscribed: 'THE ROYAL LIFE SAVING SOCIETY'. Inscription: 'AWARDED TO CHARLES SIBLEY FOR BRAVERY IN RELIEVING CREW OF BRIG PHYLLIS 10TH JAN. 1897'. Fitted with a straight bar and dark blue ribbon.

Awarded to Charles Sibley for helping to row supplies from the RMS 'Orient' to the 'Phyllis' in rough weather.
