Serpentine Swimming Club Medal

Obverse: Leander swimming across the Hellespont, hills in distance. Two towers (L) on the top of one Hero standing, waving a torch. Inscription: "PERGE ITA UT FIT". Exergue: "LEANDER MEDAL". Reverse: Inscription within an oak wreath tied with a bow. Incuse: "THE HUMPHERY MEMORIAL MEDAL instituted in 1880 BY THE MISSES C & J HUMPHERY as a token of affection for their late father, HON. TEACHER OF SWIMMING TO THE SERPENTINE CLUB, to be swum for by all Bathers Annually in the SERPENTINE". "WON BY J.P.O'CONNOR, 1ST PRIZE, July 20th 1889". Fitted with two bars, plain and engraved and a red ribbon with a broad central stripe and an engraved brooch bar.
