Citizens of Philadelphia Medal for Humanity & Heroism 1889
Obverse: An angel in flight holding in her right hand a spray of palm over a breaking wave; laurel sprays (right) a ship's wheel compass-box and anchor, below. Legend: 'From the citizens of Philadelphia to the Officers and crew of Atlantic Trans-Line S.S. Missouri'. Reverse: Between an oak and laurel wreath tied with a bow above, and a group of the bows of a boat, oar, capstan, lifebelt, and cable, below inscription: 'For humanity and heroism displayed in rescuing passengers and crew of steamship Danmark in mid-ocean April 1889'. Inscription on edge: 'Thomas Mace. Able Seaman'. Fitted with a chain and bar of blocks, tackles and lifebuoy design suspended from a red, white and blue ribbon.
