A circular badge of Maltese Cross form having curved wings surmounted by a mural coronet. The arms of Cognac, murally crowned. Obverse: Legend: 'SOCIETE DES SAUVATEURS MEDAILLES DE COGNAC (CHARENTE)'. Inscription on each wing of Cross: 'COURAGE' (Above), 'DEVOUEMENT' (left), 'HUMANITE' (right), and 'FONDEE EN 1874' (Below). Reverse: Inscription on each wing of Cross: 'SAUVER' (left), 'OU' (Above) and 'PERIR' (right). Fitted with a loop and ring and purple ribbon edged with pale blue and yellow.
