West Indies Naval Campaign Medal 1898
Obverse: Bust of Admiral Sampson in uniform (L) Legend: "U.S. NAVAL CAMPAIGN. WEST INDIES 1898". Inscription: "WILLIAM T. SAMPSON, COMMANDER-IN-CHIEF". Reverse: Three men standing on deck, an officer (C) a sailor firing a gun (L) another armed with a rifle (R); ships in distance. Exergue: "SAN JUAN P.R. MAY 12". Inscription on edge: "JOSEPH D. DYER, SEA." Fitted with a ring a ribbon of equal stripes of red, blue, red, suspended from brooch pin inscribed with the name of a ship. Inscription: 'U.S.S. TERROR'.
