Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840
Obverse: The head of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem and with hair tied in a knot. Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1848'. On truncation: 'W. WYON'. Reverse: Britannia seated on a sea horse, a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Exergue: 'W. WYON R.A.' Inscription on bars: '1 JUNE 1794', '23RD JUNE 1795', 'CHILDERS.' On the back of the latter bar: '14 MARCH 1808'. Inscription on edge: 'W.H. DILLON, COMMANDER.' The medal is suspended by a plain silver clasp from a white ribbon edged with blue. Only four medals or clasps were awarded for the action between 'Childers' and the Danish brig 'Lougen'. The inscription on the edge appears to have been erased and re-engraved, the suspender has been removed and the bar supports are those of a five bar medal.
