Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840
Obverse: The head of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem and with hair tied in a knot. Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1848'. On truncation: 'W. WYON R.A.' Reverse: Britannia seated on a sea horse, a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Exergue: 'W. WYON R.A.' Inscription on the edge: 'JOHN BESHEECH, GUNNER'. Inscription on the bars: 'SCHIERMONNIKOOG 12 AUG 1799'. 'COURIER 22 NOVR 1799'. The medal is suspended by a plain silver clasp from a white ribbon edged with blue. Three men received the clasp for the action on 22 November 1799 and nine for Schiermonnikoog.
