Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840
Obverse: The head of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem and with hair tied in a knot. Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1848'. On the truncation: 'W. WYON R.A.' Reverse: Britannia seated on a sea horse, a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Exergue: 'W. WYON R.A.' Inscription on the edge: 'JOSEPH PERKINS, MASTER'S MATE'. Inscription on the bars: '20 DEC BOAT SERVICE 1799', 'GUADALOUPE', 'AP & MAY BOAT SERVICE 1813'. The medal is suspended by a plain silver clasp from a white ribbon edged with blue. The bar for boat service 20 December 1799 was only awarded to three men. Many of those who took part in this action must have perished in the burning of 'Queen Charlotte' the following year.
