Naval General Service Medal 1793-1840
Obverse: The head of Queen Victoria wearing a diadem and with her hair tied in a knot. Legend: 'VICTORIA REGINA 1848'. On the truncation: 'W. WYON R.A.' Reverse: Britannia seated on a sea horse, a trident in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. Exergue: 'W. WYON R.A.' Inscription on the edge: 'BENJAMIN REED'. Inscription on the bars: '4 NOVR 1805', 'BASQUE ROADS', '27 SEPT BOAT SERVICE 1810'. The medal is suspended by a plain silver clasp from a white ribbon edged with blue. This is one of eleven bars awarded to the men of 'Valiant' for the boat action on 27 September 1805.
