Sea Gallantry Medal, Foreign Services, awarded to Brigadier Altieri of the Sardinian Navy, 1847.
The medal is silver and on the obverse is the head of Queen Victoria with the legend ‘VICTORIA D:G:BRITANNIARUM REGINA F D’. On the reverse is an oak wreath tied with a ribbon and a crown above with the inscription, ‘PRESENTED BY THE BRITISH GOVERNMENT TO BRIGADIER ALTIERI OF THE SARDINIAN NAVY FOR HIS EXERTIONS IN ASSISTING THE BRITISH BRIG JOHN CUNNINGHAM OF BELFAST AUG:1847’. The medal is fitted with a cusped bar and a crimson ribbon.
