Badge and star: Order of the British Empire, 2nd class (military)
Neck badge: Silver gilt cross patonce, arms enamelled blue grey on reverse. In the centre within a circle enamelled crimson, with the motto: 'FOR GOD AND THE EMPIRE' the conjoined busts of George V and Queen Mary (left) . Reverse: The Royal Cypher 'GRI'. Suspended by a crown and ring from a rose pink ribbon edged pearl-grey and with a narrow central pearl-grey stripe. Star: Eight-pointed chipped silver, four long and four short points with same centre as badge. Awarded to Vice-Adm Sir Alfred Evans, KBE, CB.
Alfred Englefield Evans (1884-1944) was a successful cricketer and Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy. He fought during the first world war and at the Battle of Jutland. He was appointed a Companion of the Bath in the 1937 Coronation Honours and was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1943.
