Star: Order of the Red Cross
Gold, white enamelled cross charged with the German eagle, enamelled black displaying a red cross on a white shield and holding a gold wreath containing a black swastika, the whole mounted on a silver rayed star of four points. Awarded to Vice-Adm Sir A.E.Evans.
Alfred Englefield Evans (1884-1944) was a successful cricketer and Vice Admiral in the Royal Navy. He fought during the first world war and at the Battle of Jutland. He was appointed a Companion of the Bath in the 1937 Coronation Honours and was appointed a Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire in 1943.
