1914-15 Star

A uniface star of four points, the upper covered by a crown, with two crossed swords entwined by a short scroll. Inscription: '1914-15.' An oak garland superimposed upon the whole. Inscription: 'G' with a 'V' within it. Reverse inscription: '311179 H. WARNE L.STO. R.N.' Fitted with a ring and red, white and blue watered-silk ribbon.

Harry Bufton Warne (1884-1952) Leading Stoker and Stoker Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. Harry Warne served throughout World War I in the battlecruiser HMS 'Princess Royal' 1911 and would have been present at the Battle of Heligoland Bight, the Battle of Jutland and the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight. He married Annie M. Maguire in 1923 and after leaving the Navy was employed as a night watchman in Poplar near his birthplace in Limehouse.
