Victory Medal 1914-18
Obverse: Winged Victory standing (front), a palm branch in her right hand, her left arm outstretched. Reverse: Within a laurel garland, inscription: 'THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILIZATION 1914-1919'. Inscription on edge: '311179 H. WARNE S.P.O. R.N.' Fitted with a ring and watered silk ribbon of rainbow hues.
Harry Bufton Warne (1884-1952) Leading Stoker and Stoker Petty Officer in the Royal Navy. Harry Warne served throughout World War I in the battlecruiser HMS 'Princess Royal' 1911 and would have been present at the Battle of Heligoland Bight, the Battle of Jutland and the Second Battle of Heligoland Bight. He married Annie M. Maguire in 1923 and after leaving the Navy was employed as a night watchman in Poplar near his birthplace in Limehouse.
