Distinguished Service Medal 1914-1936
Distinguished Service Medal awarded to Able Seaman Hubert Samuel Bevis (1883-1955). Bevis was serving on HMS 'Princess Royal' at the Battle of Jutland, May 1916 when, although badly burned on his face, neck and hands, he remained at his post until relieved.
On the obverse of the medal is the bust of King George V in naval uniform, orders and medals (left). On the reverse is the royal crown above and a laurel wreath tied with a bow enclosing the inscription: 'FOR DISTINGUISHED SERVICE'. The medal is fitted on a bar with four others: the 1914-15 Star (MED1304), British War Medal (MED1305), Victory medal with oak leaf for Mention in Despatches (MED1306) and the Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (MED1307).
