Commander John Wilfred Scott RN (1881-1926) was born in Liverpool, the son of clergymen Avison Terry Scott. He entered the Royal Navy on 15 January 1896. As a naval cadet on the training ship 'Britannia' at Dartmouth, he was awarded Queen Victoria's gold medal. Scott was in the cruiser HMS 'Isis' on the China Station during the Boxer Rebellion in 1901. A lieutenant from 1903, Scott's gunnery received favourable mention while in HMS 'Implacable' during the Dardanelles Campaign of 1915. Ranked commander since 1915, Scott received the Distinguished Service Order for services in HMS 'Cochrane' during 1918, defending the Russian area of Pechenga against capture by Finnish volunteers. The objective was to prevent incursion by the Germans. Scott retired on medical grounds on 26 March 1926 and died the same year from a skin disease.
Scott married Primrose Helen Turner on 28 October 1914.
